Feeling at war with your body? It’s not your fault! You have likely grown up in an environment with harmful messaging around body size and weight. Seeking counselling can be an important and courageous step towards healing the wounds and mending the relationship between body, mind and spirit. I want to first acknowledge you for taking a step in kindness towards yourself and reaching out for support.

My name is Aleigha (she/her) and I have spent many years learning to combat stigmatising sociocultural messaging around body, weight, dieting, nutrition, and movement. Unpacking the damage from the marketing of the health and wellness industry is no small feat and can feel like a steep learning curve - for you and me both! There is no single right way to have a body and move throughout the world, and we can work together to find a way to make your experience as a human with a body a little more peaceful.

I focus my counselling work around helping folks with their relationship to their bodies, body image, food, eating, and movement. I take an anti-oppressive, Body Positive approach to my work, centering anti-diet culture and anti-racist practices. We can work together to reflect on experiences of shame and trauma related to the body and help unpack some of the unhelpful and harmful messaging that may have impacted us throughout our lives. I work specifically on processing trauma related to fatphobia and violence against folks in larger bodies. I also aim to take an intersectional approach to issues of weight-stigma, acknowledging other identities and how they intersect with experiences of violence and oppression.

Maybe you are someone who has spent years, even decades, restricting calories with the aim to shrink your body, maybe you are someone struggling with binge-eating, maybe you are someone who has experienced many different body sizes throughout your life and is trying to find peace and equilibrium, maybe you are battling tension between Body Positivity and the desire to change your body, maybe you are looking for support in navigating conversations around body and food with your children, teens, parents, family or friends. Any body is welcome.
